Over 55 Club meets every Wednesday from 9.30 am onwards and the group is for D/deaf and hard of hearing people over the age of 55.
Prior to enjoying a freshly cooked two course lunch, people take the opportunity to catch up with each other’s news, and throughout the year a variety of speakers (British Sign Language interpreted) are invited to talk on topics of interest.
Topics have included informative talks by the police about personal security, door step callers and keeping property secure. The NHS have also provided some interactive presentations on health issues including dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, heart issues and how to take care of yourself and help prevent health problems in later life.
After lunch, dominoes, cards games or a spot of bingo are usually on offer.
The Over 55 Club committee and members work hard to make sure there is plenty of variety and something to suit everyone. The tombolas and raffles are always fun events and the group also organise several trips out throughout the year to the seaside and places of interest.
